Commercial property owners 'can charge more for eco-friendly buildings'

As well as helping the environment, landlords who chose to make commercial property greener can reap financial gains.
This is according to Alan O'Brien, chief executive officer of Sabien Technology, who said that there is growing evidence to suggest that clients are prepared to pay higher rents for eco-friendly buildings, MyIntroducer.com reports.
He claimed that, for this reason, offices with a good energy rating are attracting better yields.
Mr O'Brien remarked: "Over the life cycle of a green building the savings can also offset a higher initial outlay and result in low, or even negative, carbon reduction costs."
Commercial property seekers increasingly see environmentally-friendly buildings as an important way in which they can differentiate themselves from competitors, the expert added.
Recently, Kelvin Davidson, property economist at Capital Economics, predicted that the commercial property market in the UK will see strong rental growth this year, noting that his firm is "pretty optimistic" about the sector's performance over the coming months.
