Insolvency concerns 'remain in construction sector'

There remain concerns over potential insolvencies in the building and construction sector, it has been claimed.
According to Brian Berry, director of external affairs at the Federation of Master Builders, the outlook is improving but firms in the industry are not yet out of the downturn.
He remarked: "There is a slight improvement, but there are still a lot of concerns amongst the sector about the ongoing outlook for 2010."
His comments follow the release of figures by Experian, which revealed that the number of firms going bust fell by 5.27 per cent over the last year.
The firm said that there were 377 insolvencies in the sector in March this year.
This was a fall from the 398 recorded during the same month in 2009, suggesting that the situation may be getting better.
However, Mr Berry noted that many builders are concerned that things could get worse after the election if local authority spending is cut further.
Rick Munro, partner in charge of debt recovery at Lamport Bassitt, said: "Although 'green shoots' are appearing in the economy it is clear that we are not out of the woods yet.
"Those business facing difficulties would be well advised to seek advice from a local insolvency specialist earlier rather than later when the chances of survival are better."
