Green Party 'would open up civil partnerships and marriages'

If it came to power following the general election set to take place next month, the Green Party would relax the rules governing civil partnerships and marriages.
This is what the organisation recently pledged in its manifesto as all contenders spelled out their visions for Britain.
Among the measures it would implement would be one under which civil partnerships and marriages would be opened up to straight and gay couples.
Also, it revealed that the current ban on gay blood donation would be abolished under its rule.
Leader of the Greens Caroline Lucas said: "We are delighted that our general election manifesto includes strong commitments to further extend the rights and freedoms of [lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender] people."
She added that there needs to be considerable progress concerning ending homophobia and transphobia in the UK and her party is proposing "far-reaching" reforms.
The general election will take place on May 6th and all the main political parties have launched their campaigns to garner votes.
