Cost of car insurance 'rising'

The cost of purchasing motor cover has increased, new figures produced by Confused.com and EMB Car Insurance show.
According to the organisations' latest price index, policies rose by 4.3 per cent during the first quarter of this year.
This brought the annual increase to 14.3 per cent, they noted.
Responding to the figures, product director at Confused.com Simon Lamble said: "We expect that the price rises taking place across all age groups will cause even more consumers to seek good value alternatives when their policies come up for renewal."
Increases in cost were found to be the most stark for road users aged 21 to 35, the index suggested, with 21 to 30-year-old women being particularly hard hit.
Recently, AA Insurance revealed that the number of people making insurance claims because their vehicles had been stolen following a domestic burglary went up by 19 per cent in 2008-09 compared with the previous 12-month period.
