Consumers 'can track down lost inheritances'

Consumers who believe they may have a relative who has left unclaimed assets have been advised to try to track them down.
A This is Money article noted that each year, thousands of people die without having a will in place.
Those who have a family member who passed away within the last 30 years under such circumstances may be able to claim the lost wealth, the news source said.
Although the sum automatically goes to the Treasury, money can be reclaimed if potential beneficiaries step forward.
Private firms and a free government service can be used to help in the process of tracking down wealth in this way.
This is Money remarked: "There is quite a bit of cash up for grabs, although most payouts are less than £10,000."
Meanwhile, businessman Jeremy Toeman recently suggested that people should bequeath passwords for online accounts to their relatives as part of their wills to ensure that cash and personal information are not lost, the Financial Times reported.
