People advised to check tax codes

Workers in the UK have been advised to check their tax codes in case they contain any errors.
According to the Low Incomes Tax Reform Group (LITRG), people could end up with a number of coding notices from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), or even no such notices at all.
In addition, it is possible that individuals have received a coding notice but HMRC - which serves to collect and administer all direct and direct levies - has not sent the same information to their employer or pension provider.
To prevent such problems from occurring, consumers should check the notices they have received and, if they do not understand them, they should contact HMRC, LITGR advised.
Also, those who do not get the necessary information should get in touch with the government department, it noted.
It added: "Once you've checked the coding notice and are happy it is correct, check that the same code number is being used by your employer or pension provider."
