Many small firms 'still at risk of collapse'

A considerable number of small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are still at risk of entering insolvency, it has been suggested.
According to new figures from uSwitchforBusiness.com, 63 per cent of such organisations polled are still finding trading conditions tough, despite the fact that the recession has officially come to an end.
This is a rise of five per cent compared with the end of last year, it noted.
In addition, it was discovered that 62 per cent of SMEs believe the economy is likely to get worse before it fully recovers.
Meanwhile, one in ten firms questioned said their futures were looking decidedly uncertain.
Commenting on the research, Jake Ridge, small business expert at uSwitchforBusiness.com, said: "The greenshoots of recovery are yet to reach Britain's SMEs and as a result many are finding trading even tougher now than before."
The impending general election is also causing additional uncertainty as firms are not sure what direction government policy will go in following May 6th.
