Pre-inheritances 'rising in popularity'

The popularity of so-called 'pre-inheritances' is rising in the UK, it has been claimed.
Such financial arrangements occur when people hand over money to loved ones that would otherwise have been bequeathed in a will while they are still alive.
The point of the transactions is that benefactors are able to see and potentially influence how their money is spent.
According to Aviva, 46 per cent of adults polled had received cash in the form of pre-inheritances.
This was more than the 37 per cent who had been given wealth in more traditional wills.
Clive Bolton from the insurance group - which claims to be the fifth-largest organisation of its kind in the world - said it is the fact that people can have an input into the use of money that makes such arrangements appealing.
He added: "Alongside the obvious benefits of cutting the amount of money liable for inheritance tax, it also seems many benefactors like to see their money being enjoyed whilst they are still alive."
