Real estate investors 'to increase commercial property spending'

The majority of real estate investors in Britain intend to either maintain or raise their allocation to commercial property this year, it has been found.
Research conducted by Investec Private Bank discovered that more than nine in ten such individuals anticipate that values will stabilise or increase over the course of the year.
It was also found that, while 79 per cent predict levels of defaults will go up, over half (54 per cent) still believe valuations will stabilise and 23 per cent think that forecast values will rise.
Head of the structured property finance division at the bank Paul Stevens said: "This reflects our view that despite the prospect of rising defaults, market conditions are likely to remain stable over 2010 and UK commercial property is looking increasingly attractive to many investors."
Recently, Jason Sibthorpe, head of retail at GVA Grimley, suggested that commercial property rents are likely to remain fairly stable this year.
