Recession 'causing rise in workers suffering from stress'

There has been an increase in the number of workers in Britain suffering stress during the recession.
This is according to Simplyhealth, which found that one in two staff polled said their mental and physical wellbeing was being ignored by their employers during the downturn.
In addition, 47 per cent of employers reported that threat of job losses has led to stress for workers.
Also, a third (33 per cent) agreed that the development of a culture of long working hours has had a negative impact on the health of the country's employees.
Jamie Wilson, spokesperson for Simplyhealth - which has roots tracing back 140 years and is an insurance provider - said: "It is clear from our research that employee wellbeing needs to be high on the agenda for employers, especially now that we are out of a recession."
He added that making an effort to ensure regular communication and providing healthcare benefits are two ways in which firms can boost staff morale.
