Fund managers 'predict significant increase in M&As'

UK fund managers predict a rise in mergers and acquisitions (M&As) this year, it has been found.
According to Standard & Poor's (S&P) Fund Services, such people believe that global firms will take advantage of the weak pound to fund purchases over the course of 2010.
S&P fund analyst Daniel Vaughan said: "All the fund managers we spoke to agreed that it is highly likely that companies with good balance sheets and who are market leaders in their sector will be targeted this year."
It was also discovered that fund managers are looking towards to the possible impact of the general election, which is due to occur this year.
They think that there will be cuts in public spending, although there was uncertainty concerning where the impact will be felt.
Figures published recently by the Office for National Statistics revealed that the total value of acquisitions abroad by British firms last year as a whole was £9.9 billion.
