A fifth of drivers 'guilty of insurance fraud'

A considerable number of motorists in the UK have misled their insurer when seeking cover, it has been revealed.
According to new research from the Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB) and Aviva, one in five drivers polled admitted to so-called 'fronting', whereby they provide incorrect information to insurance providers in a bid to reduce their premiums.
In addition, 70 per cent of road users do not understand what it means to front an insurance policy.
One example of lying to cover providers is a parent pretending to be the main driver of a vehicle when in fact it is their son or daughter.
Nigel Bartram, motoring strategist at Aviva - which describes itself as the world's fifth largest insurance group - said: "When parents are fronting up a young driver's policy it means the young driver is not fully declared and will not be able to accrue any no claims bonus of their own."
