Conservative plans 'may impact on commercial property'

This week, the Conservative Party released its Open Source Planning paper, which detailed its intentions to change the planning system.

In measures which could impact on those in the commercial property sector, it stated it would abolish the "bureaucratic and undemocratic tier" of regional planning and would reform the existing planning appeals system, among other things.

It would also get rid of the Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC), the party revealed.

Responding to the suggested measures, editor at Construction News Alex Hawkes said early concerns about how the Tories would implement its ideas have not been put to rest.

He criticised the party's idea to scrap the IPC while keeping its "best bits" and raised concerns over funding issues.

Mr Hawkes went on to state: "It is difficult to know how they can square that circle of trying to get pieces of national importance through whilst also respecting local democratic will."
