Possible BA merger 'could help with industrial disputes'

The potential merger between British Airways (BA) and American Airlines could help the former company cope with industrial disputes, it has been claimed.
BA is facing strike action over changes to workers' conditions which the firm is implementing in a bid to reduce expenditure.
According to Norman Gage, Advantage Travel Centres director of business, a tie-up with American Airlines could lessen the pressure of such employee rebellion, Travel Weekly UK reports.
He commented: "If some of one of the airline's staff goes on strike then consumers can fly with the other's aircraft."
Mr Gage also predicted that a merger between the two enterprises would be unlikely to have an immediate impact on the industry.
Recently, the Department of Transportation in the US gave the green light to the deal, specifying that the firms would have to give up four pairs of take-off and landing slots at Heathrow if the deal goes ahead.
