Cost of car insurance 'on the increase'

The cost of securing car insurance in the UK is on the rise, new figures suggest.
Produced by Confused.com and EMB, they indicate that there was an average increase in the price of policies of 12.7 per cent last year, with cover going up by 6.3 per cent in the fourth quarter alone.
The firms suggested that the typical policy cost £507 at the end of 2009, compared with £450 12 months before.
Peter Ablett, commercial director at Confused.com - which claims to have been the first insurance price comparison website in the UK - stated that more than half of consumers now buy cover after visiting such sites.
Meanwhile, EMB partner Karl Murphy remarked: "Insurance providers have been badly impacted by rising numbers of injury claims and ... further price rises can be expected."
He also noted that the average car insurance provider last year paid out £1.20 for every £1 premium they received.
