New era for mediation in London 'could be imminent'

A new era for mediation in the capital may be about to begin, according to comments made by Christina Blacklaws.
The legal expert suggested that the implementation of the revised President's Private Law Programme in London could reduce delays in the court system, the Law Gazette Reports.
She stated: "There is a real possibility for us to start changing the culture in respect of how courts are dealing with children cases."
Her remarks were made in reference to the proposals laid out by Lady Elizabeth Butler-Sloss in 2004 and then revised in 2008, which establish best practice for how private law children cases should be dealt with.
All cases will be screened and those which should be fast-tracked because the youngsters are at risk will be identified.
Ms Blacklaws suggested that if more cases are resolved using alternatives to the court, time will be freed up to deal with really difficult disputes.
Lady Butler-Sloss intended her programme to be implemented in a gradual roll-out of best practice.
