Orange and T-Mobile merger to be scrutinised

There will be delays to the proposed merger between Orange and T-Mobile as watchdogs wish to analyse the implications of the deal.
If it goes ahead, the move would lead to the creation of the UK's biggest mobile network.
The Office of Fair Trading - which aims to make markets work well for consumers and is a non-ministerial government department established by statute in 1973 - intends to scrutinise the merger.
A spokesman for the organisation said: "Our view is that the joint venture threatens significantly to affect competition in mobile telecommunications in the UK."
The decision by the regulator has been welcomed by consumer groups such as Which?.
Its chief executive Peter Vicary-Smith pointed out that a merger between Orange and T-Mobile would have a significant impact on the mobile market in the UK and would reduce the number of networks available to phone users in the country to four.
