Divorce rates 'fall in England and Wales'

The number of couples filing for divorce in England and Wales has fallen, new figures have suggested.
According to a report produced by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the rate of such separations declined for the fifth year in a row in 2008.
During the 12-month period, the number of married people seeking a divorce was 11.5 per 1,000, which was a drop of 2.5 per cent compared with 2007.
This was the lowest rate since 1979, when there were 11.2 divorces per 1,000 married people.
The ONS report did not offer any reasons as to why this was the case.
It did, however, reveal that women and men in their late 20s had the highest divorce rates.
Speaking to the Guardian in December, David Willetts, shadow cabinet member responsible for the family, suggested that marriage may become a middle-class institution because of the time and money involved in arranging such ceremonies.
