Record number of tax returns completed online, HMRC reveals

More than six million people completed their tax returns online this year, it has been shown.
Figures released by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) have revealed that 6,429,899 individuals submitted their details in this way in time for the January 31st deadline.
According to the organisation - which was formed in April 2005 and is responsible for the collection and administration of all direct and indirect taxes - this represents an increase of 12 per cent on last year.
Responding to the figures, financial secretary to the Treasury Stephen Timms said: "More people than ever before are now filing their tax returns online. It's easier, quicker and HMRC processes your return faster, so any money you're owed is repaid more quickly."
The MP went on to recommend that those who have not already made the switch from paper to the web do so now so they too can experience the benefits.
