Pleural plaques sufferers 'make progress in compensation battle'

Sufferers of the asbestos-related condition pleural plaques have achieved progress in their attempts to see compensation reinstated.
According to the Daily Mirror, those with the disease will get £5,000 if they registered a claim before the courts ruled they were not entitled to payouts.
In addition, ministers are to establish a special fund to make sure that people who go on to develop more serious conditions get more money.
The publication suggests that justice secretary Jack Straw will announce the moves this week.
In 2007, the Law Lords ruled that individuals with pleural plaques - which is a form of scarring of the outer lining of the lungs - were not eligible to claim payouts.
Since then, campaigners have been fighting to have the decision reversed.
As well as pleural plaques, exposure to asbestos is associated with a range of medical problems, such as asbestosis, mesothelioma and asbestos-related lung cancer.
