Grandparents 'to have better access to kids in cases of divorce'

In cases of divorce, grandparents will soon have better access to children, the government has revealed.
Proposals put forward by children's secretary Ed Balls include measures to remove a legal obstacle that restricts access in such instances.
At present, grandparents must seek leave from the courts prior to applying for contact with their offsprings' children in the event of family breakdown.
Mr Balls has announced that this is to change, with the requirement being removed from the legal process.
In other words, while grandmothers and fathers will still have to secure court approval if contact is denied, the need to win permission to apply will be scrapped.
The Normanton MP stated: "Grandparents are often the unsung heroes when it comes to informal care arrangements for children and young people."
Mr Balls went on to suggest that taking away the barriers they face in courts in divorce cases will "relieve an enormous burden".
