Terrorist attack victims 'to be able to claim payouts'

People who are subject to terrorist attacks abroad will be able to claim compensation thanks to a new government scheme.
The development was announced by justice secretary Jack Straw and it will mean that such individuals will receive money and an expression of public sympathy.
According to the politician, who was appointed to his current role in June 2007, a new Victims of Overseas Terrorism Compensation Scheme will be established as part of the Crime and Security Bill.
He pointed out that attacks launched by terrorists are directed at society as a whole.
Mr Straw remarked: "Therefore is right that, as a tangible expression of sympathy, society should compensate the victims of terrorist attacks abroad in recognition of the injuries suffered."
While it is not possible to fully compensate victims of such incidents for the suffering they endure, the new initiative will provide some relief, he went on to suggest.
