Employers 'must better protect workers' wellbeing'

The wellbeing of workers must be better protected by those that employ them.
This was the message given by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), which urged firms to make improvements on last year.
According to figures produced by the organisation, a total of 180 workers lost their lives in the UK in 2008-09.
While this was a fall on the 233 recorded during the previous 12-month period, a sustained effort is still required, the HSE claimed.
Regional director for Yorkshire and the Humber David Snowball said: "Behind these statistics are the real life stories of people and families dealing with real hardship, pain and suffering."
He went on to state that there are "straightforward and sensible steps" that companies can take to help manage risks.
The HSE warned businesses that if they compromise the health and safety of their staff members, enforcement action will be taken against them.
