Firms 'should ensure they are covered for professional negligence claims'

Companies should ensure they have protection in place in case they are accused of professional negligence.
This is according to Jardine Lloyd Thompson (JLT), which said that businesses may be ignoring the need for professional indemnity insurance.
Such policies provide cover in the event that firms claim they have suffered a financial loss as a result of professional negligence or errors in advice.
Regional managing director of JLT's operations in the north-west Ged Smith remarked: "The vast majority of people would not even consider getting into a car without cover because a seemingly innocuous accident could ruin them financially, perhaps even professionally."
However, many businesses are putting themselves in comparable situations by not securing professional indemnity insurance, he added.
Established in 1997 following the merger of Jardine Insurance Brokers and Lloyd Thompson Group, JLT is an international group of risk specialists and employee benefits consultants that claims to be one of the largest companies of its type in the world.
