Commercial property owners 'must ensure their incomes are protected'

Owners of commercial properties must make sure they have insurance to cover them for missed rental payments, an expert has said.
Commenting on the issue, Chris Horne, editor of advice website Property Hawk, said it is a "false economy" to cut back on such cover.
He made his remarks following the publication of figures by Direct Line for Business, which found that 30 per cent of commercial property owners are worried about not receiving rent from tenants.
Mr Horne said: "There is always a danger where a landlord can't get a tenant and we urge landlords to look at tenant insurance that would insure landlords against not receiving rent. That is something that they can do, proactively."
He went on to suggest that landlords need to make sure that their properties are fully let and should avoid periods where they are not because, during such times, they are incurring costs and not receiving any income.
