Archbishop criticised over civil partnership comments

The archbishop of Canterbury has been criticised over comments he made concerning civil partnerships.
In a open letter to Dr Rowan Williams, Romford priest Father John-Francis Friendship - who is himself in such a partnership - said "immense harm" had been done by the remarks, PinkNews.co.uk reports.
Responding to a move by US Anglicans to ordain gay clergy, Dr Williams said: "A person living in such a union cannot without serious incongruity have a representative function in a church whose public teaching is at odds with their lifestyle."
According to Father John-Francis Friendship, this is incorrect.
He told the news source that he could not see any reasons why gay people would want to join the church currently as a result of the attitudes expressed by senior officials such as the archbishop.
Dr Williams, who was born in Swansea in 1950, was confirmed as the 104th bishop of the Canterbury on December 2nd 2002.
