Authorities 'increasingly concerned over travel insurance fraud'

Authorities in foreign countries are growing increasingly concerned over false travel insurance claims, it has been suggested.
According to Association of British Insurers (ABI) spokesman Malcolm Tarling, some overseas police forces are clamping down on such illegal activity, the Scotland on Sunday reports.
His comments come in the wake of the sentencing of two female travellers from the UK who recently pleaded guilty to committing insurance fraud while on a trip around Brazil.
The pair had attempted to secure a payout after falsely claiming that some of their possessions had been stolen.
Mr Tarling said: "There have been other cases like this. Some overseas police forces have got fed up with the increase in fraudulent and inflated claims, so instead of just issuing a crime number as they were doing, they are investigating complaints in detail."
Earlier this month, the ABI issued a warning message to consumers, pointing out that anyone caught making false claims will face problems in obtaining cover in the future and possible prosecution.
