Injured marine 'plans MoD compensation appeal'

A marine who lost an arm and a leg in a blast in Afghanistan last year is set to appeal the amount of compensation awarded to him by the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
Ben McBean, who is still a member of the Royal Marines and was dubbed "a real hero" by Prince Harry last year, claims that the £281,150 plus pension he was awarded by the MoD did not take the full extent of his injuries into account.
He is preparing to appeal for a larger amount of compensation from the MoD at an independent tribunal in Plymouth.
Sky News reported that legal experts estimate Mr McBean could have been awarded compensation of more than £1 million by a civilian court. But under the existing compensation scheme in place at the MoD, lump sum payments are capped at £570,000.
The current system is under review.
In June, it was reported that the MoD could be forced to pay out more than £5 million in compensation to around 150 individuals who are affected by a condition known as Non Freezing Cold Injury.
