Solicitor 'can be helpful' for making a will

Seeking out the advice of a solicitor can ensure the process of making a will is carried out correctly.
George, the agony uncle for the South Wales Echo, advised that as some homemade wills may be later found to be invalid due to the suitability of the witnesses used or lack of signatures, it is often best to seek the advice of a legal professional.
He told a reader - whose parents are in their 80s and do not yet have wills drawn up - that the documents should be organised as quickly as possible and a solicitor can help to make sure everything is valid and legal.
Regardless of age, it is important for "everyone" to have a will, he added.
George noted that when the correct documents are in place during what is frequently "a very emotional time", things are "a lot easier" for the family members and loved ones taking care of the estate.
Kate Hughes of the Independent interviewed a number of legal advisers earlier this month for the newspaper's Health Check section - all of whom emphasised that adults of all ages should make a will as a "matter of urgency".
Vincent Fattorusso, Head of Wills, Probate and Tax Planning at Lamport Bassitt commented: "It cannot be over-emphasised how important it is to make a will. Not only does it indeed make life easier for those left behind at a very emotional time but more importantly it sets out precisely where you want your assets to go on your death.
"The intestacy rules are complex and do not always direct the assets where you think they will go. A properly-prepared will can also address tax saving issues and many other factors that we all consider important but don't get round to addressing until it is too late. Neither your age nor the value of your estate should preclude anyone from making a will. For peace of mind and to be sure that your wishes are properly set out and valid, your solicitor is the person best placed and qualified to deal with it. The benefits will always outweigh the cost".
